WHAT’S INSIDE?

The Thanksgiving story
most kids never hear

Most kids know Thanksgiving as turkey, pie, and a day off school. Far fewer know Who the Pilgrims were thanking, or why a grieving, hungry community stopped to praise God after the hardest year of their lives.

Illustrated Thanksgiving harvest meal from the kids guide

In the fall of 1621, after a winter that took about half of the settlers at Plymouth, the survivors brought in their first harvest. Members of the Wampanoag people and their leader, Ousamequin, joined them for several days of food and celebration. One of the settlers, Edward Winslow, wrote home that they were far from want, and he gave the credit to the goodness of God.

Give Thanks walks children through that story with two guides their own age: Mercy, a girl from Plymouth, and Wamsu, a Wampanoag boy. Every page points back to the One who gives every good gift.

Inside your free guide

  • The Pilgrims’ journey on the Mayflower and that first hard winter

  • The Wampanoag people, who lived on this land long before 1621 and are still here today

  • What really happened at the 1621 harvest celebration, and what didn’t

  • How Thanksgiving became a national holiday, from colonial days of prayer to Lincoln’s 1863 proclamation

  • “Who Should We Thank?” and “God Provides”: gratitude as worship, anchored in Scripture

  • Four family gratitude activities, including a Gratitude Jar and a Table Card Challenge

  • Family prayer prompts, a word search, trivia, and “Would You Rather” questions for the table

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”

Psalm 107:1

FROM FAMILIES LIKE YOURS

Families loved our
first kids guide

This summer, families shared the Happy Birthday, America! Kids Guide with their kids, grandkids, and churches. Here’s what some of them told us.

4.8 out of 5 from 108 reviews of the Happy Birthday, America! Kids Guide

“The info is just wonderful for all ages! Thank you! I ordered several and have shared them with young and old. God bless you for sharing so many facts with us.”

— Marilyn | Sidney, MI

“I gifted all 30 of these great treasures to the young patriots in my family, both biological and church-related. I have already been hearing back that they were well received and enjoyed!”

— Brenda B. | Dewey, IL · 5-pack

“These books are great for teaching kids around the ages of 6–12 the facts about how America was formed... I ordered five to share with families I know.”

— Paula B. | Yorba Linda, CA

WHY IT MATTERS

What will your kids remember about this Thanksgiving?

You’ve stood with this ministry to keep biblical truth in front of families. This is one more simple way to do it, right at your own table.

With the guide

A child or grandchild asks why the Pilgrims gave thanks after such a hard year, and you get to answer. The Gratitude Jar gets read aloud. Someone leads the family prayer. Your kids leave the table knowing not just what they’re thankful for, but Who they’re thanking.

Without the guide

Thanksgiving becomes one more long weekend of turkey, football, and shopping. A generation grows up thankful for things, but never quite sure Who to thank.

“We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD.”

Psalm 78:4

FROM FAMILIES LIKE YOURS

The Pilgrims gave thanks after their hardest year because they knew Who carried them through.

That’s the story worth passing down, and Thanksgiving Day is the perfect time to tell it.
